I never set out to build a business around points and miles. I set out to give someone I loved a first experience in business class. That first flight taught me something I hadn’t fully understood: points aren’t simply a perk. They are an asset, and their value depends on how thoughtfully they are managed.
Our first real trip together was sixteen hours each way, from Los Angeles to Tokyo and on to Singapore. There was no version of that journey I wanted her spending in economy.
So I began looking at points differently. Which programs held their value. Which quietly diluted it. Which transfers opened the routes worth taking. When to move, and when to wait. The result was a multi-city business-class itinerary that would have cost more than $8,000 in cash, arranged instead for a fraction of that.
Then word travelled — family, then friends, then people I had never met. The pattern was always the same. They weren’t short on points. They were short on strategy.
That is when Marvela became a business: not because I set out to build one, but because the need became impossible to ignore. People with meaningful balances need someone who understands what they have already earned, knows where it holds value, and can put it to work thoughtfully.
